ROSACEA/SPLOTCHY SKIN Make-Up Techniques

Rosacea is a common but often misunderstood condition that is estimated to affect over 45 million people worldwide. It affects white-skinned people of mostly north-western European descent, and has been nicknamed the 'curse of the Celts' by some in Britain and Ireland. It begins as erythema (flushing and redness) on the central face and across the cheeks, nose, or forehead but can also less commonly affect the neck and chest. As rosacea progresses, other symptoms can develop such as semi-permanent erythema, telangiectasia (dilation of superficial blood vessels on the face), red domed papules (small bumps) and pustules, red gritty eyes, burning and stinging sensations, and in some advanced cases, a red lobulated nose (rhinophyma). The disorder can be confused with, and co-exist with acne vulgaris and/or seborrhoeic dermatitis. Rosacea affects both sexes, but is almost three times more common in women, and has a peak age of onset between 30 and 60. The presence of rash on the scalp or ears suggests a different or co-existing diagnosis, as rosacea is primarily a facial diagnosis.

I must say that this product works incredibly fast. I received it in a timely fashion and this bottle came intact (although I ordered the rollerball and it was practically empty when I got it, most of the product had leaked out). Everyone's skin is different and I used the peel one day and felt absolutely nothing. I washed it off then went about the rest of my day. I decided to use it on the following day (I don't recommend that anyone else do this. I know my skin very well and how it reacts to different treatments) and it started to tingle Yay! I washed off after two minutes and noticed that my skin was so smooth, and the minor discoloration on my face were lighter. I am in my mid twenties with basically clear dark brown skin. I have a few minor flaws (2 pimples that healed and left little black dots and a small discoloration under my eye). This product worked very well for me with no real irritation. In addition my sister who is just a little older than me with oily skin (I have normal/dry skin), had a small cluster of stress pimples on her cheek. she used it once and they have already started to clear up. And a little side note. After using the peel you must moisturize. I chose to forgo typical face cream and instead used hydro-cortisone cream. The slight stinging went away immediately and my face felt great Hope this helps! ps- I would have given 5 stars but I want to see what happens after the six weeks!

I bought this after reading so many other reviews. So far I have used it four times. The first three times I used it I could not tolerate the tingling, prickly (almost like glass in your face) sensations. I have very sensitive skin so prehapes that has something to do with why my tolerance was not very high. So only keeping it on for the first two minutes the first three times it didn't seem to do a lot. It did though leave a smoother feel to my skin and after the third time my pores looked a little smaller. I never itched afterwards but my checks and nose (Where my pores are the largest) almost seemed to toughen. After about a week they were soft again. It was not noticable by the human eye it just felt that way to me, by touch. The fouth time I used it, the prickly sensation seemed much more tolerable therefore I left it on for 5 minutes. I can see a much better result and my skin itches a good bit. They say not to scratch or rub so I'm doing my best not to. But the skin around my nose where the pores seem to be very large, for my entire life but especially after giving birth, seemed to be almost completely gone now. The pores around my checks are considerably smaller and much finer looking so they are not noticable anymore and the toughness that I had before is not there this time. I also changed facial creams so I don't know if that has anything to do with it but in my opinon it does. The better results I really think are due to leaving it on longer. In addition, I can SEE more smoothness on the rest of the skin on my face, including two very tiny spots, that were from sun damage, have been aletered. Only one shimmers a slight visual the other is compeltely gone. As for my very fine lines they are still there. But with the rest so far I'm fairly pleased. I had one facial before that they used a chemical peel in a salon and the peel didn't tingle so much and it was left on for a good 15 minutes. The bad part about my peel is the girl was apparently ruff and due to that I had scabes on my face afterwards. I'm told that should never of happened. Therefore, I'm very happy I found this product and will certainly continue to use it and maybe it will hit the fine lines soon. I will keep my bottle after it is empty just in case I want to repurchase it but I most likely will look to try a different product.

Used the peel four times and skin conditions have remarkedly improved. However the last peel has only slight improvement as skin has adapted to the acid. Will have to go for a 50-70% soln. Would advise anyone to purchase a 50-70% soln and dilute it to 35% as a start. It saves money too.

I am a retired skin care professional. Glycolic Acid peel is really best at stimulating cell renewal. It's excellent for older skin renewal that has become sluggish, thus tired wrinkled skin accumulates on the top. I used the product differently than directed. You want to get the product to penetrate the skin. I put it in my hand and massaged into my thoroughly cleansed face, being careful to avoid the eyes. Any left, I massaged into my hands to clean up old skin there. It takes weeks to finally see good results, but my skin does look smoother and younger. I also was able to remove several embedded blackheads with ease.

I tried this product after a lot of research, i found it did just what it said it would my face is Sooo smooth and i could not be happier.

I felt a burning sensation when I first applied it on my face. The first 30 seconds was almost unbearable but I tolerated through for 5 minutes. Very fine scabs started appearing on the third day. The results only starts to show on the sixth day when I felt a softer and smoother skin and also pigmented spots became lighter. I am on my third round now and I hope to see more better results appearing.

I wanted a peel that would help get rid of my hyperpigmentation from acne scars, lessen the appearance of my pores/acne scars, and help me control my mild-moderate acne breakouts. The first time I used this product I made sure to read the directions, tested a spot on my inner elbow, avoided heavy sun exposure prior, stopped using topicals for 48 hours before etc. The day after using the peel my face felt very calm. It felt like my face was finally "normal", it felt very smooth and soft. And over the next few days I noticed no new acne appearing. Its very important that you don't expose your face to direct/continuous sunlight for at least a day after doing the peel. Also, you should wear a spf 30 suncreen whenever you go out, even if its cloudy outside. If you don't you will have wasted your time because your skin will just get even more damaged.

First of all, I want to mention how very strong this peel is. Not only does it have a rather strong chemical odor, but it really stings when applied. The instructions say to leave it on for 30 seconds for the first application and build up to several minutes on subsequent applications. However, the first time I used this product, I could only stand leaving it on for about 10 seconds. It stung rather intensely, and the chemical fumes made my eyes water so that I could barely keep them open. I had to rinse my skin off for a good 5 minutes to makes the burning stop, but after that, my skin was hardly red and it didn't burn at all anymore. Each time I use this, I've only been able to keep it on for about 10-15 seconds longer than the previous time before I had to rinse it off. Also, the instructions say to apply only once every 10-14 days, but I've been using it every 7 days since I rinse it off so quickly. Even though I haven't been able to keep it on for more than 30 seconds tops, I've really noticed a difference in my skin. I have pretty bad skin: acne-prone, lots of old indented scars, and hyperpigmentation like no other. But I just did my third application, and my skin is a lot smoother and old acne spots are very noticeably fading. My pores practically disappeared overnight, and my face is sooo much less oily during the day. In just one day, I could already see results, and they just get better with each application. I've used this company's glycolic peel before, which made me break out after each use and left my skin red for a week afterwards. However, I've haven't had any breakouts with this peel, and it doesn't leave my face red at all (but that might be because I leave it on for only a short amount of time). Overall, I would really recommend this product (use it carefully!), and I can't wait to see the full results in a few more weeks! UPDATE: So I'm on my second round of treatment (6 weeks at a time), and I'm still loving this product. Now that I've been able to keep it on for 3-4 mins though, it does make my skin slightly red. But it's nothing terrible, and it starts to fade in a few days. I am still seeing improvement in the texture and complexion of my skin. After my first 6-week treatment, I took a break for 4 weeks, and I noticed that my skin continually looked better and better every week. Now that I'm back on the peel, it does look a little worse, but once I'm done again, it will probably start getting better. So in my experience, it takes several weeks after treatment to get the full effect of this amazing peel.

I have "bad skin" and this is great for that problem. I have yet to head back to the doctor for pills for my acne (which made me gain weight) and awful injections. I recommend this product. Also this company is one of the best to order product froms. Many times they send me extra samples of other peels and I always receive my product early.

I have only used this product twice. My skin is acne prone with clogged pores that I haven't been able to get rid of. This product cleared out many of the clogs. I also had 3 large infected pustules on my cheek and after one use of this product and a dab of benzoyl peroxide they are substantially decreased in size after 24 hours. Haven't seen any difference in the scars. The product smells, but it is tolerable. Product stings, but not as intensely as the glycolic peels.

The product seems to work in lightening dark spots, but I am having a difficult time receiving the product due to inappropriate packaging. The first time I had no problems but the 2nd and 3rd time I received my package all of the liquid has leaked out leaving me with no product to use and I have not recieved a refund from the first packaging mishap. I am very disappointed since I think the product was starting to work, but I don't think I will be ordering it again from this seller.

I am very happy with this product. I have mild acne and a lot of scars from the acne. What I like most is that it is easy to apply on the spots that need to be treated, and within a day, new breakouts are almost gone. My skin is very prone to scarring, so once I get a big blemish, it stays with me for a long time, which is why I am so glad that this not only shrinks, but stops new blemishes. I have had about 10 pimples begin to show since I've had this product and all of them have shrunk and then disappeard within two days--without leaving scars! I have only had it for three weeks, and am really uncertain how it will work for my existing hyperpigmentation and scars, but it seems to be doing it's job. I did have to leave it on for the maximum time (or more) in order to have slight peeling within about 48 hours. The first two times I put it on for less than 10 minutes, my face didn't peel at all. I'm not really sure that your face does have to peel to get the same results, but it seems to me that it would be necessary. Also, it does sting, but not bad at all--comparable to alcohol, or concentrated salycilic acid. It only stings while you have it on and for a couple minutes after you rinse it off. I would and have highly recommended this product.

it arrived so quickly, i was really excited. the only thing that annoyed me was it had leaked a bit by the time it arrived, but nothing major. okay, so i tested it out for the first time last night... the stinging did not bother me at all, it merely felt similar to rubbing alcohol. so far no negative skin reactions, which is positive. the roll on makes for a simple application which i like though i have no idea how that compares to the other version. i have not really noticed any changes so far but i know since it's a light peel it'll take a few applications. i'll update further after some time has passed! ++++++++++++++++++++++++ (LATER) Okay, so it's been about 3 weeks & I've just done my 3rd application. I think this product is terrific! My skin is incredibly soft & smooth. I've definitely notice it has cleaned out my pores, made my skin tighter but still "plush", I've barely had one break out even during my cycle! Also, I had some very faint childhood chickenpox scars that are all but gone already. Oh & my skin tone is perfect. It didn't really make my skin visibly "peel" which I'm happy about, but I think that's probably partly because I use the Aveeno Face Pads to wash my face (only the soft side & very gently) so it probably clears away any lurking dead skin cells on the surface. I also apply Aveeno Positively Radiant moisturizer sp15 (my regular daily moisturizer) afterward which seems to have gone over well with my skin :) Oh, it's worth noting that I've had to be extremely careful about sunlight. The first time I applied it to my entire face (instead of a small part as a test) I got a lot of sun on the left side of my face from my sunny window. Later, I noticed a huge red patch on my left cheek which looked like & hurt like a sunburn. I put lots of the moisturizer on it & it faded in about a day or two. No other issues but I've just been particularly cautious with the sun while I'm using this stuff. This stuff has been so fantastic. It does not really burn, in my opinion, and works gently and quickly. Also! If you're considering doing a skin peel, maybe think about what you're eating during the healing process. I've been eating lots of avacados, walnuts, salmon, tomato sauce, green & white teas w/honey, sweet potatoes/yams, & pomagrantes since they all have excellent skin benefits. I mean, if you're going to go as far as a skin peel (even a gentle one) why not go all the way & ensure your new skin is the best it can be? :) Hope this helped anyone who was curious!

I find the BHA + HQ peel extremely effective for both spot healing pimples and cystic acne as well as the post-breakout dark marks. It is not quite as effective on my fine lines. This has a rubbing alcohol-like appearance, feel, application, and scent and leaves behind a slight whitish cast once rinsed away. I agree that this peel burns rather intensely. I don't leave this peel on more than a couple of minutes. I also only spot treat troubled areas as opposed to completely covering my face. The roll-on is very convenient using it as such. I also agree that it takes several application before the results are noticeable. After about four or five treatments, there was peeling and fading of the dark marks left behind after breakouts. Furthermore, my skin does not actually begin to show peeling until 3 to 5 days after application. I wait a minimum of five days, before I re-apply this peel. Although I've used this for several weeks, there is still about half of my bottle remaining. For the record, I do have really persistent, but moderate acne.

I've been using retin-A for a year or so with great results. Adding weekly applications of this product has improved my skin texture and evened out my skin pigmentation even more. As with any non-surgical skin procedure, it takes time and regular use to see the full benefits. There will be some stinging -- after all, these are acids! But overall, I am happy with this product and plan to continue using it.

Rosacea: Your Self-Help Guide Rosacea: Your Self-Help Guide

Reviews

I have lived with rosacea for over 10 years. In this time I have found out a lot of what works and does not work for me. This book first and foremost really encourages and affirms that when it comes to rosacea you need to be your own expert. What might trigger or help on person might do nothing for you or do just the opposite. I loaned this book to a friend who had just been newly diagnosed. She found it to be a great help So whether you have had rosacea for a long time or newly diagnosed this book has value. It is well worth the price and is by far less expensive than many of the creams, pills, or diets that claim to have an impact on rosacea. Buy this book first then decide which options you want to pursue next on your quest to manage your rosacea.

I don't know what School of Natural Medicine Arlen Brownstein went to but she does not treat the body wholistically nor does she believe in the basic tenet of naturopathy which is that the body can heal itself through natural means. She is clearly neurotic about her skin and has not put her education to practical use in her own life. It's sad but if you think you're going to buy a book from a wholistic perspective you will be disappointed. The first thing she states is that hers is an incurable illness. This is hypocritical coming from someone using N.D. Naturopathic Doctor as her title. She should more appropriately call herself an amateur dermatologist without education or medical degree. The book is not holistic and it is not healing. I recommend the Rosacea Diet instead. This author is holistically oriented though he doesn't have an n.d. after his name. I used the paleolithic diet from one of the websites he mentioned and cured my rosacea. It is not an incurable illness. If you have that belief then that is what will be for you, as that is what is for her.

I just received this book, and already I like it! It has a lot of information about rosacea, about treatment, and ways I can do something about it. Most of this is new information to me. Beginning with an exact description of my experience in being diagnosed (down to the two pamphlets and vagueness), I found a lot to think about and to be surprised and comforted by.

Rosacea had been making my life miserable for the past five years. My depression over the disease was literally ruining my life. A fellow rosacean suggested this book to me after she found it so helpful. I have been following the suggestions in the book for a little over a month now. There is no doubt that my skin has begun to dramatically improve. I hope the author reads these reviews, because I want her to know how thankful I am to her. If you have rosacea, get this book. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I reviewed this book and gave it a poor rating a few months ago, and now I find that the review has disappeared. Here is the problem with this book in a nutshell: WAY too much data that is also very poorly presented, especially if you are a new sufferer of this condition. Perhaps a long-time sufferer of rosacea could pick through this helter-skelter mosaic and find some grains of wisdom, but the newbie like me will probably be overwhelmed and fall into despair. Fairly disorganized in general, there is too much anecdotal information with far too many contradictions in the medical sections (particularly the parts about acid balance in the diet). You're just dropkicked into various technical sections without any handholding and then thrown to the wolves of information overload. When I was first diagnosed with rosacea, I needed some simple guidelines. I was depressed, felt like Mother Nature had screwed me over, and needed some positive steps to move forward immediately. Do yourself a favor and visit rosacea-dot-org or some other website that offers clearer, more direct guidelines on health, medicine, and other regimens so that your skin can start to look and feel better right away. That's what I did. It's free. After three months of treatment and some dietary adjustments, my face looks much better!
