Proactiv Skin Care
Proactiv Solution is an over-the-counter topical, Benzoyl Peroxide-based bactericidal for the treatment of mild to moderate forms of acne. Co-developed by two dermatologists Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields, Proactiv Solution was first marketed and distributed by the direct response marketer Guthy-Renker in 1994 through 30 minute infomercials and later through the internet and kiosks at national mall outlets to as many as 10 million reported customers. Proactiv Solution was among the first commercially marketed treatments to implement emerging clinical findings from the late 1970s and mid 80s, which demonstrated the acne-fighting benefits of Combination Therapy and potential efficacy of a milder 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide vs. the until then commonly prescribed 5% and 10% strengths of name-brand OTC spot treatments. Even as recently as the mid 90s, the concept of treating acne with a daily regimen of preventative medications was still considered new, but the Rodan and Fields combination approach of an exfoliation plus 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide, and non-comedogenic moisturizer to reduce drying of the skin has since become accepted as an industry standard treatment among dermatologists and has been adopted and further accepted by other acne skin care brands.

Proactiv Solution Refining Mask 2.5 OzReviewsNot worth it. Is not how they describe it on t.v., "Dab some on and pimple is almost gone when you wake up." Does dry you out too. Would NOT buy again. Proactiv is overpriced. Many friends have said it does not work. Don't be sucked in by the stars saying it works. They are getting paid. This product did not work for me when used as spot treatment and it smells terrible. It does, however, work for one of my friends. I think it depends on your skin chemistry. It was worth a try and since I ordered it on amazon it was actually affordable. I was a little skeptical that this would be actual proactive, but it was. it smells jus like the stuff. and it works like it. Pros: Stops pimples from coming up (when you catch them before they break the surface) Kills the pimples already up Does not have a strong smell Cons: Very drying Does not heal blemishes, just leaves them dryed out scabs Does nothing for blackheads. I have had luck with this. It stopped a serious breakout in its tracks, which has never happened for me with any other product. After that week though, I stopped using on large areas (my jawline, where I breakout the most). I now only use it when I feel something coming up, and then moisterize the rest of my face. All in all a great product, but if you have dry skin already, you may want to pass this up. This product contains sulfur, a non-synthetic antibacterial compound. In theory, bacteria see the sulfur and absorb it because it looks so much like vitamin D to them. Through an unknown mechanism, this kills the bacteria. Neat! On a side note, i paid $9.50 for this product. Their price fluctuates daily, so add it to your cart and wait for the best price. Average Rating:![]() |

Proactiv Solution 3 Step System Kit, 2 Month SupplyReviewsThe products seem to be helping and are easy to use. I would recommend them. My teenager hasn't been using them very long, but I can see a difference in his skin. Just like any other acne medicine it works for most, but not for all. But for me it worked wonders. Never having an acne issue, I really never worried about my skin. Then I got pregnant and my hormones knocked me back into puberty I guess. Zits everywhere. I have been using Proactiv for 7 years now and I wouldn't use anything else. In fact after using it for an amount of time, I don't have to use it near as much as when you begin. I skip days and most days only have to use it once. If I start to get a zit, just zap some of the "mask" on it like you would clearasil, and it gets rid of it within a day or two. It is a terrific product and I recommend it so much that I even got it for my 14 year old step-daughter. Who also swears by it. DO NOT get it from the proactiv website unless you want to pay more and just throw your money away. You pay $30 a month no matter how often you actually get your set. And if you only get your set every 3 months that is 90 bucks plus other shipping fees, etc. that would only pay $60 at the mall for (or less than that on certain websites)... you are paying way over the price it is really worth! And if you deactivate your account you still paid that last 30 bucks for nothing, because if you cancel before your next shipment, you are never going to get that money back even though you didn't get product. Give it a shot for a few months and I am certain it will work as well for you as it does for me & my family. I've been seeing the infomercials for Proactiv since I was 12 or so. I'm 33 now. One thing that always really bothered me about those ads is that they either don't disclose, or bury the fact, that this medication contains benzoyl peroxide. This is a real problem for a lot of people who allergic to that chemical, including me. I would've thought that Amazon, at least, would list the active ingredients. Guess not. Apparently there is a "gentle" version of this product that uses salicylic acid instead. But neither product is going to be any different than your Clearasils and Neutrogenas. Purchased Proactiv at two different occasions. My skin for the most part is clear but I wanted it to be fully clean. 1st time, it dry my skin a lot but I tried to keep faithfull till I finish the bottles. Well, besides drying my skin, it gave me more acnee. 2nd time and a year later, I tried it again. Same exact results. I completely gave up and would not purchase it again. I've been using Proactiv for about 8 years, but on and off. When the stuff first became popular, I was still in high school and my mother had to charge it to her card for me. What a pain! Back then they would ship it every month whether you needed it or not. I ended up having so much backed up that I eventually had my mom cancel the whole membership. It lasted me through college! After everything fianlly ran out, or expired, I used regular drug store cleansers, but they'd bleach my clothes or towels and often dry out my face or just stop working all together. I had never had that problem with Proactiv so I decided to start ordering it again about two years ago. I got stuck with the same problem with the vitamins (Vitaclear). They seemed like a good idea and thought that I'd just keep taking them, but they made me so nauseous and didn't help my face, or anything, at all. It took a month of searching the internet to finally get the number to call to cancel. THEN after I cancelled, they told me they were STILL going to charge me for one more shipment and send it anyway. I was so frustrated I just told them OK. Oh, and now all of a sudden, Proactiv bleaches certain clothes and has bleached all my towels. Even when used in the shower. A good number of my fiance's shirts are ruined from sleeping on his shoulder at night. I had to tell him to sleep with a shirt off so I didn't bleach any of his shirts because we never knew if it would mess it up or not. I've always loved Proactiv and it really does work if used consistently and correctly, but I think at this point it is more of a hassle. Even though I have it set up to ship every 12 weeks, it always ships and charges me so randomly. I hate to cancel because it really did work for me in high school, but I think I might be switching to the Neutrogena kit. I think that now there are so many other products out there that can do the same, if not better, than Proactiv and that are much cheaper and less of a hassle. Average Rating:![]() |

Proactiv Solution Renewing CleanserReviewsI have used every product out there. This one really keeps away about 90% of the acne I would otherwise get. I can't say it makes my face perfect, but it makes it much much better than it would be with any other product. Definitely follow with the lotion (or try the benzoyl peroxide treatment at [...], which works fantastically). Proaciv is a highly effective acne treatment brand but, here's the catch - you have to keep at it. Firstly, it takes a few weeks before you see significant results. This is the case for any acne treatment product really - you just HAVE to be consistent and give it time. So, folks looking for a quick solution to their problem (i.e. - clearing up your skin in time for prom or a wedding, for example) will be disappointed. Secondly, it is not a magic potion capable of "curing" acne. Once you stop using the product, your acne will return unless you take active steps to maintain the health of your skin. It is often believed that merely using a product can be the only change made to help your skin. Clear skin is about more than just using the right brands.... having clear skin is about understanding skin. Overall, I'd say use this product if you can afford to consistently buy it. If you can't, understand the ways to help keep your skin healthy since, if you don't take those steps, it is HIGHLY likely be disappointed once you stop using Proactiv. Side note: Do use all three components of the set if you can. Since it was formulated to work as a set, it is better to use it that way in the end. I ordered on Amazon.com thinking I could get it faster than the company. For APO/FPO boxes, this is not true. They also ran out of the supersize, which I think might be worth ordering the cleanser separately. I ordered through Proactive, and both products came on the same day. I have always found the cleanser to be super effective! I have purhased Proactiv products for years for my granddaughters; they cleared up their skin problems and we avoided medication many years ago and now they use them regularly for "maintenance". I am 30 years old with moderate acne. This soap is wonderful. It's the only thing that works. You have to give it a week or two though. Average Rating:![]() |
